Each of our therapists is uniquely trained in Marriage and Family Therapy. This means that whether you seek individual, couple or family therapy they have the knowledge and training to help you navigate the complexity of relationships. Not all therapists are trained to work with couples or families, so it’s important to ask if the therapist you are talking to is specifically trained to work with couples or families when choosing a therapist.
Individual therapy is a way for you to have a place to explore thoughts, feelings, struggles that impact you and your relationships without having to worry how someone else will feel if you express something. It provides the opportunity to make changes and get unstuck.
In Individual therapy, you might explore:
- self doubt
- trouble with relationships
- how new stages of life have affected you, like the birth of a child, the death of a parent, the kids leaving home and so on
In session, your therapist may talk with you about your family, the family you grew up in and how the things you learned, the role you have or had impacts the issues you are seeking to address.
Couples Therapy is an effective way of finding your way back to connection with one another, or even creating a new and better relationship.
The type of issues Couples Therapy can be helpful with include:
- Lack of communication
- Lack of passion
- Affairs (physical and emotional)
- Money issues
- Arguing over the same issues regularly
Our therapists work with married couples, premarital couples, gay and lesbian partners and aim to have you build the skills and connection so that therapy is no longer needed. At times, it may be appropriate for your therapist to meet with each of you individually. That will be determined by everyone involved and the parameters of that will be discussed in session.
Family Therapy gives everyone in the family the opportunity to talk in a safe, constructive environment . Each member of the family is a part of the process and has a voice in creating change that is healthy for everyone involved.
Family Therapy may include:
- Parents and children
- Aunts and Uncles
- Extended family including those who are not biologically related but are considered family by those involved and that may be a significant factor in the issues the family looks to address
Family Therapy is the most effective way for parents to effect change with their children. If you are having issues with your child, we encourage you to engage in the family therapy process together for lasting, long term change..
You are required to notify your therapist within 24 hours of your appointment if you cannot attend. If 24 hours notice is not provided, the full session fee will be charged.
