Liza Harbison, LGMFT

I am a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Maryland (LGMFT). I graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, and from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Master’s Degree in Couple and Family Therapy. I have training and experience in couples therapy, family therapy, and individual therapy. I am a trained facilitator in the PREPARE/ENRICH premarital program, which helps couples get the skills and insights they need for a strong marriage.

I am a Maryland native who has always been interested in how people tick and how their closest relationships influence their lives. My family taught me the importance of caring about and engaging in the world around me, a value that was strengthened in my undergraduate years at Oberlin College. I believe in the power of strengthening our relationships with ourselves, our partners, our families, and our broader communities.

I am a compassionate and passionate therapist dedicated to empowering all people to create change in their lives through effective, empathic marriage and family therapy. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is crucial to help individuals, couples, and families reach their goals. I know the courage it takes to walk in the door for the first session and share so openly with me, so I meet that courage with respect, warmth, and a nonjudgmental stance.

I guide clients on a journey of self-discovery that allows them to see the choices they can make in their lives and their important relationships. With couples, I believe in actively breaking harmful patterns of communication and learning to communicate needs more effectively. I help couples turn toward each other and learn to work as a team in the face of stress. I also work with families to improve communication and emotional connection. I see many parents who feel stuck, and help them feel empowered to make changes in their family. I am passionate about helping my clients find their voice, gain skills to face difficulties with confidence, and recognize the strengths and resources they possess.

In my free time, I enjoy playing with my dog, traveling, cooking vegetarian food, hiking, reading, and photography.
