Samantha Steininger, LGMFT
People often feel stuck in their problems and when they seek therapy, they are making a brave decision that is the first step on the journey towards the changes they wish to see in their life. I strive provide a safe space for my clients where they can feel validated in the challenges they are facing and empowered to overcome them. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, my style of therapy takes a systemic view of the difficulties and struggles for which couples, families, and individuals often seek treatment. The specialized training of MFTs takes into account that problems do not exist in a vacuum. I hope to take a collaborative and empathic approach towards helping my clients discover the interaction cycles, behavioral patterns, and thought processes that are getting in the way of them feeling fulfilled, worthy, and satisfied in their lives. I view every client as unique, which is why I utilize a variety of well-informed therapeutic modalities to help my clients reach their goals.
Igrew up in Atlanta, Georgia with a large tight-knit network surrounded by my parents and older sister in addition to aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and great grandparents. This upbringing instilled in me a love for family as well as a fascination with and passion for family dynamics. Through watching my family’s examples I learned the values of communication, connection, empathy, and simply being present for those who need you. Another of my values is that of integrity, or aligning my choices with my fundamental beliefs. For this reason, I support my clients in examining their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, so that they too can live in accordance with their personal values. I deeply believe that each and every one of us is here to work on ourselves, develop and refine our character, and grow into the people we have the potential to become.
I am a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Maryland (License #LGM611). I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Family Science with a minor in Human Development and my Master’s Degree in Couples and Family Therapy all from the University of Maryland, go Terps! I am also a trained facilitator of the PREPARE/ENRICH program – a guided assessment process that primarily focuses on premarital couples improving and growing in their relationship. I have experience working with couples, families, and individuals of diverse backgrounds dealing with family life cycle transitions, parenting struggles, infidelity, communication issues, anxiety, and depression among other life challenges.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our little girl. I also enjoy reading, doing craft projects, and being involved in my local community. I try to travel back to Atlanta, Florida and Chicago as often as I can to visit with my family.
