About Shanell Wyche Hodges, LCPC

Every relationship hits rough patches. Maybe it’s the same fight that never seems to end, the distance that’s crept in over time, or that heavy feeling that you’re living more like roommates than partners. You might catch yourself wondering, “How did we get here?” or “When did things start to change?”

The hopeful truth is that disconnection doesn’t have to mean your relationship is broken beyond repair.

I help couples and individuals slow down, look beneath the surface, and find their way back to each other with honesty and compassion. What inspires me most is seeing partners stop the patterns that hurt, start speaking from the heart, and rediscover the warmth and respect that once came naturally.

My Approach

I’ve spent nearly twenty years walking alongside people as they navigate stress, trauma, and relationship struggles. Over time, I realized that understanding why things weren’t working wasn’t enough…people wanted to know how to make things better. That’s what drew me to Relational Life Therapy, or RLT. It’s a straightforward, caring approach that gets right to the heart of what’s creating distance between partners and helps them build new, healthier ways to connect.

In our sessions, I bring both honesty and heart. Sometimes that means slowing down to rebuild safety and trust. Other times, it means gently but clearly calling out the patterns that aren’t serving you. I draw on RLT, EMDR (a trauma-healing approach), and the Gottman Method to help you move from reacting on autopilot to relating with intention and understanding.

My dedication to this work comes from my own story. Growing up, I saw my parents love each other deeply but struggle to make their relationship work. That experience taught me how much love needs skill, communication, and courage to truly last. Today, I bring that belief into every session and into my own marriage and family. When I’m not in the office, you’ll find me with my husband and our three daughters, hosting family dinners, dancing in the kitchen, and embracing the beautiful mess of everyday life.

Who I Work With

I work with couples and individuals who are tired of feeling stuck. Some come in at a breaking point, while others simply want to reconnect and strengthen a relationship that’s lost its spark. Many are dealing with repeated arguments, emotional distance, trust issues, parenting stress, or struggles with intimacy. What they all share is the courage to grow and the desire to love and be loved more authentically and consciously.

Healing Through Connection

My goal is to help you move from frustration and confusion toward clarity and connection. Together, we’ll build the kind of emotional honesty and communication skills that create lasting change. I believe every couple has the capacity to grow stronger when they learn how to tell the truth with kindness, courage, and an open heart.

When you’re ready to begin, I’ll meet you right where you are and walk beside you as you find your way back to each other.
